This small tiled roof extension looks fairly insignificant when observed from the other end of the garden, but as you move closer towards it, you see how dramatically it has increased the depth of space the property now boasts. But, surely it must be tiny inside? Not true! Manoeuvring the bi-folding doors open exposes a very neat interior where there is more than enough space to take it easy on the couch. The steepness of the pitched roof adds to the overall spaciousness of the extension and the roof windows play no small part in that too.
The extension is just as heavily populated at night as it is during the daytime. We fitted downlighters into the perimeter ceiling to ensure the occupants could reside inside long into the night. They emit a very soft artificial light, but it’s more than enough to make the interior come alive. The bricks used in the extension and tiles in the roofing system were carefully handpicked as we wanted to make sure they complemented the existing brickwork and tiles. Together, they insulate the space and stop external conditions from interfering with thermal comfort. Bigger isn’t always better. Some small thinking can work just as well.
