Is every composite door the same?
To look at them, you would think so, but no, they’re not all the same. A regular composite door has an average thickness of 44mm, plus a foam filling. It will also typically feature a GRP colour skin (commonly known as fibreglass) and be lightweight.
Solid Core composite doors are considerably thicker, boasting a depth of about 48mm. They have laminated layers of timber, which makes them a lot stronger than foam-filled composite doors. Their UPVC skin also helps you colour match the design to your door frame.
Prices can vary between the different composite doors on the market – a Crystal advisor can assist and steer you in the direction of the right door.
Can you have different internal and external colours?
Crystal can usually take care of applying one coloured finish to the inside of the door and a contrasting finish on the outside, as we know e.g., you may have a hankering for a door with a white interior and red exterior. It’s in your hands to decide what colour/s you have. Once you know, tell us and we’ll do the rest.
MORE COMMON QUESTIONS
One of Crystal’s advisors will happily field any questions that you have about our elegant doors. Search for a possible answer to your questions below.
How many keys will come with my new door?
Crystal will give you 3 keys as standard, no matter what door you purchase – just let us know if you need more than 3 keys when you are ordering your door. Additional keys can also be cut for you.
Can the same key be used for both doors? (Suited)
We can get that organised, no problem. Tell your advisor when placing your order and they record your request for a suited key so that it can be used for both doors.
What is Secured by Design?
Fully approved and endorsed by the Police, Secured by Design is an initiative that was set up in a quest to improve the security of buildings and their surroundings so that people can feel safer in them.
SBD’s product-based accreditation scheme – The Police Preferred Specification – is the formally recognised standard for products that can minimise acts of crime. These products include domestic windows and doors and their various components e.g., hinges and locks.
Our sister manufacturing company, Conservatory Outlet, is a fully fledged member of Secured by Design, which means that our product range fulfils the standard. Outline any concerns that you have about home security with a Crystal advisor.
Can you explain what a 3-star rated door barrel is?
The highest rated door cylinder is a 3-star rated door cylinder. This essential component has been thoroughly tested to check that it can offer maximum security. Our door cylinders come with unique snap-secure technology and a lockdown mode to prevent the breaking of the barrel.
Is it possible to completely fold back a French door?
You can if it has an egress hinge. This will help you fully fold back the door, which will maximise the view of your outdoor setting.
Which do I buy – bi-folds or sliding patio doors?
Both could work well if you have a suitable opening at the back of your home. This will give you the luxury of opening your house in the summer. You can completely fold a bi-folding door back, so that creates a very generous garden opening. A sliding patio door also creates a decent opening and the view through the design won’t be half bad either because of the slender framework. Ask the opinion of a Crystal advisor if you need help deciding.
Is there any finance available to help me pay for my new door?
Yes, Crystal has a range of affordable and convenient finance packages (subject to application & status) for its customers. Sorting out a finance application is simple, and you won’t have to wait long to discover if it has been accepted. We can get the application organised in our showroom or we’re happy to travel to your home to fill out the paperwork.
If my finance is approved, what are the next steps?
If you have arranged the finance yourself, give us a call when you receive notification of its approval. But if it’s been organised through Crystal Clear, the relevant finance company will contact us both to let us know.
Help! I’ve been refused finance. What do I do?
Finance can be refused for many different reasons, including if you have moved several times in recent years. We’ll do whatever we can to assist and may suggest that you try another provider, especially if there’s one that already knows you.
How long should I expect to wait to be approved?
It may be an almost instant ‘yes’ or you may have to wait a few days to discover if approval has been granted. Don’t be too concerned if there is a short delay as that can occur for various reasons.
