Garden ownership should be regarded as a privilege and you should savour yours at every opportunity you get, even when you are copped up indoors. The occupants at this house acknowledged that and because they loved their garden so much, they decided to go all out and have glass to floor glazing. There is also no shortage of glass in the roofing system, so you can probably picture how wonderfully bright the space gets, each and every day. To get even more out of their garden, they also asked for French doors to make it easily accessible.
It all goes on inside the conservatory – lots of relaxing, lots of eating and lots of working. And it doesn’t stop at night fall. There is an internal pelmet within the extension that contains a series of energy efficient spotlights. They enable the inside of the conservatory to be lit up, and when they need replacing, it is cheap and easy to exchange them for some fresh replacement bulbs. The presence of an internal pelmet was also essential if we were to be able to add the full height glass panels to the extensions. This wealth of glass throughout the design may lead some to worry about the conservatory overheating in summer. But, the glass has an exceptionally low U-value, so all you feel in summer is perfectly cool.
