With the cold weather and dark nights setting in, it’s safe to say we’ll all be spending more time at home this year.
While some people might be upset at the prospect, we see it as a good thing. Especially if you’ve taken steps to make your home a safe and relaxing space to enjoy your time.
If you haven’t achieved those home goals quite yet, now is the perfect time to do a little work around the house to get your home set for winter.
For this time of the year we recommend the following home improvement projects, completing these will make your home feel more cosy in no time.
Install thicker carpets
Have you noticed that your home feels colder than it should? If you have wood floors throughout or older carpets, you could be losing heat that way.
Installing a new thick wool carpet is the perfect way to trap heat in your home, reduce wasted energy and help you save on your heating bills.
Wool carpets are a real treat, being super soft and a fantastic way to make any room feel warm and welcoming. Just be sure to enforce a no-shoes policy to keep your new carpet clean and looking its best.
Decorate with bright cheery colours
The trend for grey isn’t going anywhere and it still looks amazing in any home. If you’re feeling like you want to add some colour back in though, we recommend going bright and bold!
A bold burgundy or gentle orange will re-energise a room whether you go for painting the walls, or if you don’t want to go that far add a splash of colour also through the use of artwork, fabrics or furniture.
If you decide to go for the paint brush, for best results we recommend painting on a dry day so you can keep the windows open for fresh air. Prime and sand the wall before you start and choose the best quality paint you can for a professional finish.
Install new windows and doors
During the winter many families start to worry about their energy bills. There’s a lot of expenses during the festive season and a large heating bill is something nobody wants.
A way to make your home warmer and make the most of the heating you do use, is to install energy efficient windows and doors. These new installations will help to improve your energy rating and help you save money on your energy bills and eliminate draughts.
