Advice On Getting That Cottage-Like Look And Feel At Your Home

Cottage look and feel

The weather is beginning to get a little bleak and when it gets like that, we trust in our homes to provide a warm, cosy sanctuary.

If it doesn’t offer that kind of atmosphere at present, it can do if you channel the look and feel of a cottage, which will make the winter months more tolerable.

You can do it wherever you live, whether it’s in some remote countryside retreat or suburban property. It’s just all about knowing what types of touches are required, as Crystal Clear does.

The feel: get the place nice and warm

The lure of staying in a cottage often comes down to us fancying being in a wonderfully snug space, so it needs warming up.

Lighting your fire will be a good start and you want to have several thick blankets and throws available throughout your main living area that you can use when you need that extra bit of warmth. You shouldn’t need them too often if you have energy efficient windows and doors installed.

You also won’t need to put your heating on too much or too high if you have modern windows and doors, as they will hold heat in.

This high standard of heat retention will be great for your energy bills as your fuel costs will be kept low and more affordable.

The look: change to a cottagecore theme

After getting the right amount of warmth dialled into your home, turn your focus to your current decor.

An apt theme to imitate in this instance would be cottagecore, an aesthetic celebrating an idealised rural life. It’s nostalgic. It’s whimsical. It’s reminiscent of a more relaxed era. UK home renovators seem to love it, and so will you.

No cottagecore inspired decor should be without floral patterns and you can get those in the space through soft furnishings, like curtains and valances, wallpaper and antique drawer knobs.

To emulate the theme on the outside, request a pastel-coloured finish when having any new energy efficient windows and doors installed, and consider the inclusion of Georgian bars in them.
